The Sunday Times in Ireland has increased its circulation 10.3% year-on-year between January and June 2009.
Andrew Dunn, Managing Director, MediaCom Ireland, said the only real success story in national press in the Republic of Ireland was The Sunday Times. He added that the ABC's Island of Ireland report, which details circulations for newspapers and magazines in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, showed "declines across everything", which was "accelerated by economic pressures".
The Sunday Times' circulation was 116,541 in the first half of 2009, up 10.3% year on year and the largest increase of any paper published in the Republic. Dunn said this was because the publisher had "invested heavily behind the title" and "pushed the product forward".
Oliver Keenaghan, General Manager, News International Newspapers Ireland, said The Sunday Times' success was down to its relaunch in July last year, strong marketing and the "heavy news" delivered by the paper.
